Salt Water Swimming Pool Maintenance - Getting The Most Out of It

There are definitely a lot of advantages when comes to using a salt water swimming pool. But just like any type of swimming pool, they also have their own sets of problems.

In this post I'd like to address some of the issues that salt water swimming pool owners faces.

Calcium Build Up
This is caused by the salt. Salt attracts calcium, and even more so in "plaster" pools. This can cause scaling. If the calcium build up is due to chemicals your best bet is to actually drain some of the water and replace it. If however, the calcium is in the water, you should get a hold of a good commercial hardness remover or chelating agent. These bond with the calcium in the water to keep it trapped.

Run Away Chlorine
This is a common issue due to the chlorine created by the salt in the water. This happens if your pool water isn't balanced properly. It can get into some of the components of your pool, such as the heat exchange in your heater. Best to always keep on eye on chemical levels.

Rain
If you live in an area that gets a lot of rainfall expect to add more salt as needed. Rain pushes the salt out of your pool water, which generally means more salt than normal will be needed to maintain a good balance.

A good salt water swimming pool maintenance guide is definitely a must if you're running a salt water system.
