7 Swimming Pool Maintenance Tips To Keep A Safe and Useable Pool

Taking care of a swimming pool can be a lot of work, which is why most people choose to outsource this job. These services can be expensive, when really, maintaining your own pool isn't as difficult as some of those pool companies make them out to be.

Here are some tips to save you money, time and energy, while dealing with swimming pool maintenance.

Rainy/Windy Days
Never use a pool testing kit on these days. With the weather acting up, it can be difficult to get a proper and accurate reading. If you're concerned about the levels in your pool, wait at least 24 hours after a shower or wind storm to test your pool.

Clean Your Filter
Mid-season is a good time to check and clean your pool filter. Use Filter Degreaser to remove any oils that have accumlated over time.

Flock and Metal Removal
After using any type of flock or metal removing agent, wait at least 24-36. Then, use your pool vacuum to clean up the left over. Flock and metal removal agents are inexpensive and can save a lot of time.

pH Levels
At least twice a week use a test kit to check your pool's chemical levels. You want the pH balance to be around 7.2-7.6 for the best environment for chlorine to work properly.

Skimming and Staining
Skim your pool twice a week to get rid of bugs, insects, leaves or any other foreign objects that may have entered your pool. In addition, be sure to clean out your skimmer baskets and clean the pool tile/wall at water level to avoid staining.

Algae
Add a small dose of anti-algae agents once a week to prevent algae from growing.

Shock
Shock the pool once a week, and add about one bag of shock per 10,000 gallons of water. If it's been raining heavily, had a lot of use or in very warm climate, you may need to use more shock.

With these tips in conjunction with a Swimming Pool Maintenance guide, you'll be set all season for cheap, easy and effective swimming pool maintenance.

Have fun!
